Aryna Sabalenka won their match vs Ons Jabeur at Western & Southern Open, 7-5, 6-3
Aryna Sabalenka has slammed the scheduling decisions at the Cincinnati Open, saying she will not get enough rest before her semi-final clash against Karolina Muchova.
World No. 2 Sabalenka has criticized the scheduling at the Western & Southern Open, arguing that it prioritizes Carlos Alcaraz's matches by putting them in more favorable time slots.
Sabalenka defeated world No. 5 Ons Jabeur, hitting nine aces and breaking her opponent six times to win 7-5, 6-3. This is a reverse of their match in the semi-finals of Wimbledon where the Tunisian player defeated Sabalenka 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-3.
Following her win, the Belarusian player has less than 24 hours to prepare for her match against Muchova. During the post-match press conference, Sabalenka said she was happy to get to the semi-finals of the WTA 1000 event.
"I'm super happy to be in the semifinals. Super happy to get this win back," she said.
However, she also called out the schedule, voicing her concerns as she referenced the problems faced in Montreal at the Omnium Banque Nationale Canadian Open last week.
"The only thing I was worried is the schedule. Everyone was complaining about schedule in Montreal. Just the same thing happen here. I was really disappointed," she continued.
The 25-year-old also shared her frustration at the difference in scheduling matches for the major ATP players.
"Why they would make this decision... why [Carlos] Alcaraz at 3 pm? I mean, I understand this is Alcaraz, everyone wants to see him play. They put him at 6. I just played the match not before 7. Finish, what, 9? I have to play one again tomorrow. I was thinking at least 3 p.m. Just the only thing what makes me worried," she added.
