Work needs to be done says
Lindsay Davenport amid
Naomi Osaka's comeback to the sport which saw her lose to Karolina Pliskova in Brisbane and at the
Australian Open, it was Caroline Garcia who found her way through.
Osaka returned to the Australian Open for her first Grand Slam appearance since the 2022 US Open, however, she lost to a resurgent Caroline Garcia who proved she was up for that clash only by then promptly losing to Magdalena Frech in the next round. But three-time major winner Davenport sees plenty to come from Osaka due to her pedigree.
"When you have won four Majors and you have been at the top, it's about winning Majors, its about at least contending for Majors and she came down to Australia, she was one in two, she got out hit by Plisakova, got out hit by Garcia, that is not a peak Osaka," said Davenport on Tennis Channel.
But while she is targeting the likes of Doha, Qatar and Charleston for her return, Davenport believes it could be the Sunshine Double that heralds her next move. "Of course it's amazing and it's a big first step just to get back on tour and to get back out on court but if the goals are to win Majors I think a little bit more work needs to be done. It wouldn't surprise me if maybe she waited till Indian Wells." she continued.
