Confirmed with a ceremony, the Entry List for the 2023
Guadalajara Open AKRON has been confirmed with the Mexico WTA 1000 taking place between September 17-23, 2023.
The mandatory WTA 1000 previously took place during the boycott of China between 17-23 October instead of the Wuhan Open, but with the WTA now returning to Asia, it has been shifted.
This being to the week after the US Open which means some may withdraw from this initially announced field.
Jessica Pegula is the defending champion, she defeated
Maria Sakkari last year.
Iga Swiatek and Jessica Pegula despite initially being entered have since withdrawn.
Elena Rybakina and
Ons Jabeur are the leading seeds as a result.
Aryna Sabalenka played 12 months ago, but is not involved this time around. Karolina Muchova and Marketa Vondrousova are glaring absentees with Barbora Krejcikova and Liudmila Samsonova also out of the top fifteen skipping it.
But the reasoning behind this could surround the return to China and Japan with some players likely not wanting to go to Mexico and instead play the returning Asian swing post US Open.
