The WTA Ranking has been updated today, Monday, August 28, with world No. 1 Iga Swiatek holding onto the top spot as Sofia Kenin drops out of the top 100.
The WTA Rankings have been updated on the same day as the US Open kicks off, although this will not affect players' seeding for the tournament. At the top is Iga Swiatek, who is entering her 74th week as No. 1. However, world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka, currently 1,209 points behind Swiatek, will have another opportunity to usurp the 22-year-old in New York.
All the Belarusian has to do is to match or better Swiatek at the tournament, although this will probably be harder than it looks as the Polish player is the defending champion.
In terms of ranking points, this means that Swiatek has 2,000 points to maintain, while Sabalenka has 780 to defend after reaching last year's semi-finals.

Alexandrova in top 20, Kenin out of top 100

Elsewhere, much has remained the same. The only major developments include Ekaterina Alexandrova re-entering the top 20 after finishing runner-up at Tennis in the Land, a WTA 250 event in Cleveland.
Meanwhile, the Tennis in the Land champion Sara Sorribes Tomo has jumped up 40 places to No. 55 following her victory.
In terms of the top 100, Viktoriya Tomova has re-joined the group at No. 82 after she won the Chicago 125K title. Meanwhile, Sofia Kenin, who achieved a shock victory over world No. 6 Coco Gauff in the first round of this year's Wimbledon, has found herself falling out of the top 100 after missing all of the US Open series with a thigh injury.
Nevertheless, she is planning on competing at the Grand Slam, where she will hope to gain back some points after going out in the first round in 2022.
Meanwhile, Simona Halep, who has been provisionally suspended due to a positive doping test since last October, is now outside the top 1000 with just 10 ranking points left. The Romanian player will lose these points at the end of the US Open as she awaits the verdict from the tribunal examining her case.
