Former WTA player Jill Craybas has said that she thinks
Taylor Fritz could 'test'
Novak Djokovic at the
US Open.
23-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic will be aiming to secure his fourth US Open title in New York after he was barred from entering the US for the major last year due to his unvaccinated status.
Many fans are eager to see him play at Flushing Meadows again and are particularly hoping for another epic clash between the Serb and top-seeded defending champion Carlos Alcaraz. However, Craybas has suggested another player could challenge the Big Three member.
Craybas thinks surface could help Fritz test Djokovic
The 49-year-old expressed her opinion that ninth-seed Fritz could be the one to challenge Djokovic, if not end his run at the US Open altogether. The American said of her compatriot that Fritz's confidence coming off a win at the
Atlanta Open, as well as his strong serve and the hard-court surface, could help him.
"I think [Taylor] Fritz could be the one that could test him first because Fritz is playing with a lot of confidence, had a title in Atlanta, and is playing some great tennis. I think Fritz is gonna like this court.
"He has got that big serve, big forehand. So, that would be the first one I would go to probably to maybe cause Djokovic some challenges," she said.
However, in order to challenge Djokovic, both men will need to reach the quarter-finals of the tournament. Fritz will face Steve Johnson in his opening round, with his biggest challenge other than Djokovic being a potential clash with seventh seed
Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Meanwhile, Djokovic will play his first-round match against Alexandre Muller and could potentially face world No. 15
Felix Auger-Aliassime in the fourth round.
