The ATP & WTA events of the 2021
Miami Open will run from March 23rd - April 4th with some of the brightest stars from the ATP & WTA Tour.
After the WTA final which saw
Ashleigh Barty win the Miami Open 2021, it's time for the ATP Final with Jannik Sinner taking on Hubert Hurkacz. The WTA crowned the defending champion as 2021 champion but the ATP will be crowning a new champion.
Neither of these players ever played in a Master final before and there are too many interesting facts to name all of that. One interesting one that should be noted is that the winner will enter the top 20 for the first time in their career. In terms of the match, it's one that is fairly hard to call.
Both players had some amazing performances to reach the final. Both showed some serious calmness of nerves in key moments of the match and both enjoy attacking style of play. Hurkacz possesses the better serve which should give him a slight edge in that department but Sinner has the more advanced baseline game.
Considering the overall talent and form displayed lately, Sinner is probably considered a slight favorite in this one but anything except a very close match would be a surprise. Tennis fans will enjoy this final regardless of the outcome as great tennis is guaranteed.
2021 Miami Open Schedule of Play:
Sunday, April 4th, 2021:
19:00 Sinner J. (Ita) - Hurkacz H. (Pol)
Saturday, April 3rd, 2021:
Ashleigh Barty and Bianca Andreescu will fight for the title at the 2021 Miami Open as the two proved to be the strongest in the women's field this year.
Still only 20-years-old Bianca Andreescu spend more than a year without playing a single match on the WTA Tour and still managed to reach the final only in her 3rd tournament after coming back.
On the other hand, Ashleigh Barty is showing very dominant performances this year and she already has one title from Melbourne.
The two will meet now for the first time and it will be the match for both of them. While Andreescu seeks to prove that she's the top young prospect on the Tour, Barty will try to defend her title from 2019. The match will be the only singles match played on Saturday with men's final on Sunday.
19:00 Barty A. (Aus) - Andreescu B. (Can)
Friday, April 2nd, 2021:
While women will take a day off before their final day, men will complete the final line-up on Friday as fans in Miami will witness two high-quality matchups in Friday's semifinal schedule of play.
The action will begin with a match between Roberto Bautista Agut, who stunned Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinals, and Jannik Sinner who lost only 1 set in Miami so far as he defeated Hugo Gaston, Karen Khachanov, Emil Ruusuvuori, and Alexander Bublik.
They met at the exhibition event in Berlin during the ATP Tour suspension back in 2020 with Sinner winning in 2 sets. This year in Dubai, the Italian youngster added another victory, this time in 3 sets and so the more experienced Spaniard will be looking to get his first win against Sinner now in Miami.
While there will be no big favorite in the first semifinal match, the second semifinal will see a massive favorite and that will be Andrey Rublev. The Russian is one of the best players of the 2021 season so far and if he wins in Miami, he will be ranked no. 1 also in the ATP Race to Torino.
Rublev has won 20 out of 23 matches he played this season and Hubert Hurkacz will try to stop him from winning 21st match. The Polish player is also having a good season when he has won his 2nd ATP title in Delray Beach and he's showing very good performances in Miami when he eliminated Denis Kudla, Denis Shapovalov, Milos Raonic and Stefanos Tsitsipas.
19:00 Bautista R. (Esp) - Sinner J. (Ita)
01:00 Rublev A. (Rus) - Hurkacz H. (Pol)
Thursday, April 1st, 2021:
The 2021 Miami Open is slowly coming to an end with only the best players remaining in the draw. Two ATP quarterfinals are on Thursday's schedule along with two WTA semifinals. It will be an interesting day of tennis with play starting at 19:00 CET headlined by Barty and Tsitsipas.
The men will kick us off on Thursday at 19:00 CET with Stefanos Tsitsipas playing against Hubert Hurkacz. With Medvedev losing to Bautista Agut last night Stefanos is now the top seed remaining in the draw. Not something he is used to but something he is clearly embracing he will have a tough task against Hurkacz.
Inspired tennis has been shown by Hurkacz all through the fortnight with his familiarity with Florida clearly showing. He took down some strong opponents here but facing an in-form Stefanos is trouble. They played 8 times with Stefanos leading 7-1 and he will be the favorite once more.
In the 2nd quarterfinal, we will see native Sebastian Korda take on Andrey Rublev. Two players with a similar style of play but one clearly better at the moment it's hard to see how Korda can trouble Rublev. If the Russian plays his game he will clearly be the favorite to take this one.
On the WTA side of things, we have two semifinals on the schedule. Barty will take on Svitolina in a fascinating matchup where Svitolina will have a huge chance. She is playing her best tennis in a long time and with an H2H lead of 5-1 against Barty she clearly likes playing her. In the 2nd semifinal, we will see Sakkari take on Andreescu.
Both of them played stunningly so far with Sakkari's win over Osaka the most impressive match yet. Andreescu has played well but she also played several long and grueling matches that will affect her play. She looked very tired after last night's match and that might prove crucial in this contest.
ATP:
19:00 Hurkacz H. (Pol) - Tsitsipas S. (Gre)
01:00 Korda S. (Usa) - Rublev A. (Rus)
WTA:
21:00 Barty A. (Aus) - Svitolina E. (Ukr)
02:30 Andreescu B. V. (Can) - Sakkari M. (Gre)
Wednesday, March 31st, 2021:
The 2021 Miami Open is entering its final stretch with only a handful of matches left to play. On this Wednesday we will have 4 matches played with two on the ATP side and two on the WTA side. On the ATP side of things, we will have Jannik Sinner take on Alexander Bublik in a match set to start at 21:00 CET.
It is a reprisal of the Dubai matchup we saw a fortnight ago where Sinner came back from being a set down to defeat Bublik. This is a great opportunity for both players to reach the semifinals and Bublik will be out for revenge. After the loss, he was both annoyed and impressed by the skill of the young Italian.
At 02:30 in the morning we will see Daniil Medvedev play Roberto Bautista Agut. It's a tough matchup for the Russian who is the top seed as he lost both matches he played at this event. But played well so far but neither is playing his top tennis right now. Expect it to be a long match with rallies for the ages.
On the WTA side of things, we will see Naomi Osaka take on Maria Sakkari. That match will open the day at 19:00 CET and it should be an exciting match. They played 4 times so far with Osaka winning three of those matches. All of them went to 3 sets so another tight one should be expected. Osaka lacks no motivation with the number one spot up for grabs so expect her to be sharp.
The final match of the day will be between resurging Andreescu and emerging Sorribes Tormo. Both of them put forward some strong performances this week and with the semifinal up for grabs, both should be motivated.
ATP:
21:00 Sinner J. (Ita) - Bublik A. (Kaz)
02:30 Medvedev D. (Rus) - Bautista R. (Esp)
WTA:
19:00 Sakkari M. (Gre) - Osaka N. (Jpn)
01:00 Andreescu B. V. (Can) - Sorribes Tormo S. (Esp)
Tuesday, March 30th, 2021:
A great day of tennis awaits us at the Miami Open on Tuesday with a schedule heavily dominated by ATP matches. A plethora of 4th round matchups are in store to determine who moves on the quarterfinals and we will start with Isner taking on Bautista Agut. At the same time, Sinner will play Ruuusuvuori.
A big-time serving battle between Fritz and Bublik will come a bit later after which we will see another one when Raonic takes on Hurkacz. Daniil Medvedev will do his best to avoid cramping up against Francis Tiafoe while Sebastian Korda will try to extend his dream run against a resurging Schwartzman.
The final two ATP matches on the day will take place after midnight CET time when Tsitsipas takes on Sonego at 01:00 and Rublev plays Cilic after that. On the WTA side of things, we only have two matches today but they were very interesting quarterfinal matchups.
In the first one defending champion, Ash Barty will take on
Aryna Sabalenka while in the 2nd one we will see
Elina Svitolina take on Sevastova. Both of these matches can go either way so there will be drama and excitement which is always a good watch.

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2021:
Sunday at the Miami Open promises to be an exciting day of tennis with many interesting matches from the ATP and WTA. Europe shifted clocks last night so that means that matches will start an hour later today and a banger will get us off between Auger-Aliassime and Isner.
The action will kick-off on March 23rd with 12 WTA first-round matches. Although, the seeded players will not be in action yet, we will still see some interesting names on the courts in Miami.
Barbora Krejcikova, who was in a very good form lately will start her Miami Open campaign against Ana Blinkova. Nadia Podoroska will take on Mayar Sherif and Marie Bouzkova will play against Arantxa Rus.
We will see also a lot of home players on the courts. Christina McHale will take on Laura Siegemund, Robin Montgomery will meet Magda Linette, Katrina Scott will play against Sorana Cirstea and Lauren Davis will take on Kaia Kanepi.
We will also see an all-American clash between Madison Brengle and Shelby Rogers, however, all eyes will be on
Venus Williams. The 40-years-old American will play against Zarina Diyas in her opening match at the Miami Open which she won in 1998, 1999 and 2001.
