Following his quarterfinal exit at the recent Shanghai Masters tournament, Australian ace
Alex De Minaur might be forced to miss some time as he appears to have sustained an injury.
The 26-year old looked impressive during his run in Shanghai, reaching the final eight without dropping a set. However, De Minaur's campaign came to an end at the hands of Daniil Medvedev, as the former World No.1 proved to be too much for the seventh seed.
Following his appearance in Shanghai, De Minaur was slated to compete at an upcoming
Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS) event in Hong Kong. However, the Sydney native released a statement yesterday stating he would be pulling out of the event.
"Hi guys, Alex de Minaur here," wrote the Aussie on Instagram. "I’m extremely disappointed at having to withdraw from UTS here in Hong Kong. It’s an event that I was looking forward to playing in front of some amazing fans. I’ve always wanted to come here to Hong Kong, so I tried everything I could to play this tournament."
De Minaur's coach delves into specifics of injury
"We flew in, we tried to practice, I just have too much pain in my hip," De Minaur continued. "So I’m wishing the rest of the competitors an incredible tournament. I’m sure the fans are really going to enjoy it. Wishing all the best to the beautiful city of Hong Kong, and this amazing tournament."
The former World No.6 has been one of the ironmen on tour, but could be out for an unknown period of time. When queried in an interview, Matt Reid, the Australian star's coach; told The First Serve that his ward's hip problem is linked to the one which saw him withdraw from Wimbledon at the quarterfinal stage in 2024.
Furthermore, Reid stated that more will be announced in the next few days and it’s not clear whether De Minaur will play in Vienna or Paris before the year-ending ATP Finals, with the Aussie almost guaranteed a spot as he sits at the seventh position in the ATP Race to Turin.
