Alexander Zverev and Stefanos Tsitsipas cruised to R3 of the Rome Masters following impressive openers at the event.
The German was able to overcome a short turnaround from his Madrid Open final played on Sunday where he won his 4th ATP 1000 Master's trophy. His opponent Dellien was once a very good clay-court player but his best days are long behind him and it showed. The German took the initiative early in the match breaking Dellien early.
From there it was mostly cruise control for Zverev who was superb in the first set. He hit 3 aces and only dropped four points en route to the 6-2 finish. In the 2nd set, he mostly did the same except for one game where he allowed multiple breaks points but he ended up winning the game anyway.
In total, he faced 6 BP's and saved all of them playing superbly on his serve overall. He used 3 of 7 break points he had which was more than enough for the 6-2 6-2 win.
Joining him in the next round will be Stefanos Tsitsipas who was no less impressive in his win over Marin Cilic. The Greek player was not able to break Cilic early as the Croatian served rather well which allowed him to take the initiative on his own serve. The Croatian was utilizing the kick serve a lot forcing Tsitsipsa out of the court finishing points with his forehand.
It was only very late in the set that Tstisipas was able to break Cilic and take the opening set 7-5. The 2nd set was much more impressive from Tsitsipas who used a considerable drop in the level of Cilic to end the match quickly. He won the 2nd set with 6-2 and largely played a strong game on his own serve not allowing a single break.
