The three-time Major champion and a former world no. 1 Andy Murray will start the new season at the ATP 250 Delray Beach Open on January 8!
The 33-year-old played two matches at the Battle of the Brits in Roehampton in the previous week, defeating the British top-ranked singles players Daniel Evans and Cameron Norrie to gain confidence. Andy has decided to take the Delray Beach wild card and make a debut at this event, hoping for a strong run ahead of the Melbourne trip if he receives the Australian Open wild card.
Andy is currently ranked 122nd, making strong progress at the end of 2019 following that nasty hip injury and experiencing another one at the Davis Cup Finals in November. That pelvic injury had kept Murray away from the court in the opening two months of 2020, making his first appearance in Cincinnati and beating Frances Tiafoe and Alexander Zverev before losing to Milos Raonic.
Andy came from two sets to love down against Yoshihito Nishioka at the US Open, scoring a notable but also the last victory of the season following two early losses at Roland Garros and Cologne. Milos Raonic, John Isner and Reilly Opelka are the top favorites in Delray Beach, with Murray trying to spoil their party and make a name for himself on the tournament debut.
Murray has won 46 ATP titles in a career, but only two following that brilliant 2016 season that saw him becoming the year-end no. 1 ahead of Novak Djokovic.
