Tennis is heading off to central America with the 2026
Mexican Open set to be a thrilling and entertaining tournament hosting some world class talents who will be eagerly eyeing up the
prize money and rankings points on the line.
No one more than
Alexander Zverev as he looks to rocket back up the rankings into the top three in the world. He will be hoping to close the gap back to Novak Djokovic in third with Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner out of sight in the top two positions. he lost out in the final in 2019 before making up for it in 2021 against Stefanos Tsitsipas.
The challengers are coming in strong, with Lorenzo Musetti not being one of them. The world number five was set to be the second seed in this event but he has pulled out of another tournament, with his plan to compete in all of South and Central America gone up in smoke as he pulls out of the
Mexican Open. The thrid and final top 10 player to feature is
Ben Shelton. He has recently picked up another title in the Dallas Open, surviving match winning opportunities against Taylor Fritz to get back to winning ways. He looks to make a mark in Mexico and continue his fine form currently experiencing.
Casper Ruud will compete in his second tournament as a father after the Delray Beach Open. The former world number two has not reached the heights experienced a few years ago, and will also be motivated to make up for the final defeat in 2024 to Alex de Minaur.
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has started the year on the front foot with some deep runs but is still the highest ranked player without an ATP title. While that is not the same for Flavio Cobolli, the Italian has just won a single match in 2026 coming in the United Cup. Without any success on the ATP Tour, he needs to get back to his best and fast.
The likes of Cameron Norrie, Valentin Vacherot and Corentin Moutet will all provide solid challenges with an outside shot of the title with American duo Brandon Nakashima and Frances Tiafoe also looking to make an impact.
