For the better part of the last few years, the ATP Race to the Finals hasn't been very exciting because there was a significant gap between the top of worlds tennis and the rest of the player pool. While that is still true this year's Race has been a lot more interesting than before.
Numerous players have made the next step this year winning big events and making deep runs at Grand Slams. That reduced the gap between the top and the rest of the players and we now have a proper race for several spots at the ATP Finals in Turin.
Novak Djokovic is the only player that has officially qualified as he holds a big lead over the rest of the field. Stefanos Tsitsipas sits at 2, Matteo Berrettini at 3, Andrey Rublev is at 4, Alexander Zverev at 5 and Daniil Medvedev at 6 and Rafael Nadal at 7. These players should all qualify if nothing extraordinary like an injury happens.
The final 8th spot is contested by numerous players that have all achieved a similar number of points. Currently, it's occupied by Ruud but both Sinner and Hurkacz are very close. The Italian made a huge step towards that by winning the Citi Open in Washington last week bagging 500 ATP points.
