Jannik
Sinner remains the leader in the
ATP Race to Turin, while
Casper Ruud and
Stefanos Tsitsipas rise after the ATP 500
Barcelona Open.
Novak Djokovic, on
the other hand, continues to be outside the qualification spots for the ATP
Finals and is in 9th place.
The
young Italian didn't compete in any events last week but comfortably maintains
the top spot in the rankings with 4310 points, thanks to his three titles this
year at the
Australian Open, Rotterdam Open, and
Miami Open, as well as
semifinal appearances in
Indian Wells and
Monte-Carlo Masters.
Sinner
leads with a considerable distance ahead of his nearest rival
Daniil Medvedev
in second place. The Russian hasn't secured titles yet but has been
consistently strong with finals appearances at the Aussie Open and Indian
Wells, as well as semifinals in Dubai and the Miami Open, despite his early
exit in the Monte-Carlo round of 16. The former world No. 1 was not in
competition during the past week.
Those
who have regained ground and have positioned themselves well are the finalists
of the Monte-Carlo and Barcelona Open: Casper Ruud and Stefanos Tsitsipas. The
Norwegian secured his first ATP 500 title on Sunday and rose to the third
position in the Race, while the runner-up Tsitsipas is in 5th place.
Tsitsipas and Ruud are the players who have accumulated the most points since the start of the clay swing.
Others
maintaining high positions include
Alexander Zverev (4th),
Alex De Minaur
(6th),
Carlos Alcaraz (7th), and
Grigor Dimitrov (8th). The 24-times Grand Slam
champion and world No. 1 Novak Djokovic is only in 9th place, considering he
has only played in three events this year. His recent confirmation of absence
from the
Madrid Open suggests he may continue to drop positions in the ATP
Race.
