After the first week of competition, the ATP Race has its first clear results, with
Hubert Hurkacz emerging as the early leader of the 2026 season. The Pole played a key role in Team Poland’s triumph in the
United Cup final, and with four singles victories throughout the tournament, he collected a total of 265 points, placing him at the top of the Race for now.
The ATP Race measures exclusively the points earned during the calendar year — in this case, 2026 — unlike the
ATP Rankings, which are based on the last 52 weeks of competition. The Race will determine the eight players who qualify for the ATP Finals at the end of the season, as well as the year-end rankings. It is also always a useful indicator of current form, as it excludes points from the previous year.
Behind Hurkacz are the two ATP 250 champions from the opening week of the season.
Daniil Medvedev captured his 22nd career title at the
Brisbane International, while
Alexander Bublik was crowned champion at the
Hong Kong Open. Both players are tied for second place with 250 points, while their respective final opponents — Brandon Nakashima and Lorenzo Musetti — round out the top five with 165 points.
Also featuring prominently in the upper part of the Race are Zizou Bergs (155 points) and Sebastian Báez (140), both of whom earned valuable points through their performances at the United Cup. Báez impressed by winning all three of his singles matches, including the biggest victory of his career so far against world No. 6 Taylor Fritz. Bergs, meanwhile, won three of the four matches he played, highlighted by a career-best win over world No. 5 Félix Auger-Aliassime.
Moving towards the top seven, three players from the United Cup join the champions and finalists from Hong Kong and Adelaide, the first ATP 250 events of the season. On this occasion, the Challenger circuit has also played a significant role.
British player Toby Samuel currently sits in eighth place, boosted by his Challenger Manama title at the end of 2025 — which counts towards the 2026 Race as it was played after the previous Race concluded — as well as a semifinal run in Nottingham this week. Despite being ranked just No. 249 in the ATP Rankings, he is already among the top 10 players of the 2026 season so far.
Also entering the top tier are
Next Gen standout Alexander Blockx, the recent Challenger Canberra champion, and Spain’s Pedro Martínez, who lifted the Challenger Bengaluru title last Saturday.
Other notable names already positioned in the upper section of the Race include Stefanos Tsitsipas (No. 11), Andrey Rublev (No. 11), and Australian star Alex de Minaur (No. 30).
