The ATP Rankings have been updated for another week after Vienna and Basel which saw Jannik Sinner and Joao Fonseca seal titles. They dominate this weeks update which takes place prior to the start of the Paris Masters this week.
The Paris Masters is technically the final stop on the ATP Calendar aside from the ATP Finals and a few smaller ATP 250 tournaments over the coming weeks and the race is certainly on to gain that Year End No.1 spot. Carlos Alcaraz maintains his hold on World No.1 in the latest edition of the ATP Rankings.
However his rival Jannik Sinner is firmly hot on his trail and it seems that they will battle it out at the Paris Masters in the coming week. Alcaraz did not compete in any of the ATP events following his win at last month's Japan Open. This leaves him with 11,340 points.
Sinner's campaign at the Shanghai Masters came to an end in the third round after he retired due to cramp but he bounced back in style seeing off Alexander Zverev in the final of the Vienna Open on Sunday. He is now sat on 10,500 points with his latest victory albeit he likely needs to win the Paris Masters to unseat Alcaraz who is on 11,340 points. The Spaniard can avoid this by reaching the semi-finals but this likely in any event secures a crescendo incoming at the ATP Finals in the coming weeks.
Alexander Zverev lost in three sets in the final against Sinner and while of course he hasn't moved in any way, he has escaped the rest of the pack even more going up to World No.3 with 6,160 points. Fritz is next on 4,685.

Ruud, Auger-Aliassime and Fonseca rise

Novak Djokovic is a non mover at World No.5 and while he likely won't play again this season has not shifted up or down despite not playing since his semi-final loss in Shanghai earlier this month. Albeit Alex de Minaur is catching. He moves up to World No.6 this week and is about to break the 4,000 point barrier. One good result or title would see him up to World No.4.
Ben Shelton is the one to fall as a result of the rise of Alex de Minaur as Lorenzo Musetti holds on to World No.8. Casper Ruud and Felix Auger-Aliassime both reached the Quarter-FInals in Basel this week in what was a strange malaise of retirements and both won titles the week before. They move back into the top ten moving up two places each to World No.9 and World No.10 respectively.
But Joao Fonseca is firmly one of the stars of the latest update. He beat Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-3, 6-4 in the final of the Swiss Indoors on Sunday. It is the biggest title of his career so far and is the second of the year after winning the Argentina Open. Thanks to this run, he jumped 18 spots to make his top 30 debut and sits at World No.28.
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina despite losing another final, four in all this year is now up to a new career high of World No.15 in the latest ATP Rankings despite losing another final so very much every cloud has a silver lining. Corentin Moutet in 32nd, Jaume Munar in 36th, Valentin Royer who sits in 59th as well as Eliot Spirzziri are the other main movers. The latter now is in 100th. They all now attain career highs.
An ATP Rankings that no doubt will shake up again before the end of the year with Paris and the ATP Finals to come to complete the final standings for the year. But will Sinner snare that Year End top spot, time will tell.
