Ben Shelton has arrived in Indian Wells as he smashed Fabio Fognini despite a slow start where he gave the Italian an early lead before coming back to win 6-4 6-1.
Shelton has not been playing that well since his amazing run in Australia but he returned to winning ways in Indian Wells. Fognini took an early lead as Shelton opened the match a bit erratic missing a few shots but very soon she turned things around. Fognini would have more break points later in the set but Shelton held on and ultimately won the set 6-4.
The serve was not hitting as well as it can in the opening set as he had 3 double faults but he balanced it out with 12 winners. The second set was an utter thrashing by the American as he smashed Fognini 6-1 in 34 minutes. He had 11 winners in that one and 23 overall. 14 uncored errors was not enough to give Fognini any chances as he had 13 of his own.
