Carlos Alcaraz will begin his Argentina Open Buenos Aires campaign tomorrow and it starts off his clay court season. Albeit without
Roland Garros as his main goal he admits
Asked whether he would keep an
Olympic Games gold medal over a Roland Garros title, he said the former and called it a dream to win a medal for his country and encapsulates sport in general and transcends tennis as a result.
“I keep the Olympic title because for me it is a dream to win a medal for my country. Gold is one of the greatest things in sport in general," said Alcaraz.
He also admitted that in his mind, it doesn't hold more or less weight whether it is Roland Garros or US Open for instance as a Grand Slam. But despite shunning the clay court major, he wants to win it despite it not being his first priority when it comes to titles and goals and he said that it won't give him sleepless nights.
“A Grand Slam is a Grand Slam, it doesn't matter if it is Roland Garros or any other,” he added.
“Roland Garros is a tournament that I am excited to win and I hope to improve on last year's semifinals, but I don't feel like I should win it or I have a thorn in my side for not having won it yet. In the end, it's like any other Grand Slam, it's worth one.”
