Casper Ruud had to fight very hard to outlast
Quentin Halys but the Norwegian ultimately ended up doing just that 6-4 3-6 7-6(2) to book the final.
Halys found something this week in Estoril making it all the way to the semi-final despite not having much clay success in the past. The French player liked the conditions in Estoril and they worked well with his serve all week long and today was another one of those days. He blasted 16 aces in the match making it very hard for Ruud to get even close to a break chance.
The Norwegian had those in the first set and he used one to take it 6-4. It was a good set from Ruud as he patiently waited for his chances and then used them. Halys didn't and that was the difference. In the second one, Ruud dealt with some physical issues that required an off-the-court medical timeout.
Halys took an early lead and held it for the entirety of the set easily to take it 6-3. The final one saw the players play a tiebreak as neither allowed a single break point in the entire set. Halys held his own pretty well but he collapsed in the tiebreak allowing Ruud to win it 7-2.
