Predictions Chile Open 2026
Samuel Gill, Head Editor for TennisUpToDate.com sees Sebastian Baez as the champion.
FIrstly Ignacio Buse to continue his exceptional run after the last week. He for me will be one of the big stars. But in addition I see Sebastian Baez living up to his name as the specialist on South American Clay.
Also a good run beckons for Francisco Cerundolo. The Golden Swing is always hard to tally as many of the names you expect don't perform.
So overall expect the unexpected is my thought process.
*** Sebastian Baez
** Francisco Cerundolo
* Ignacio Buse
Sebastian Baez to continue good run?
Cristhian Avila, Editor for TennisUpToDate.com sees Cerundolo as champion.
Final stop of the South American swing and the clay specialists will have one last chance on the surface, with Francisco Cerundolo once again as the main candidate, as well as Luciano Darderi – both finalists in Argentina during the first week of the Golden Swing.
The king of the swing in recent years has been Sebastian Baez, who with two previous finals in Santiago will be a name to consider. Local hopes will also be placed on Alejandro Tabilo, who if he finds motivation from his home crowd should make at least a deep run.
*** Francisco Cerundolo, Luciano Darderi
** Sebastian Baez, Alejandro Tabilo
* Ignacio Buse, Cristian Garin
Lucas Michael, Editor for TennisUpToDate.com crowns Darderi as champion.
The Golden swing is still going strong in South America with the third and final instalment coming in the Chilean capital of Santiago.
A familiar set of names are set to take the headlines with Francisco Cerundolo again the top seed and quite possibly the favourite. His win on home soil was a special one, but it is back to business as his quest for more titles and progress up the rankings continues.
Luciano Darderi lost in that Argentina Open final, ending his incredible run on clay. He will be hotly tipped by many to get over the line this time and continue his fine run up the rankings on a favourable surface.
Sebastian Baez had started the year on the front foot with a final in the ASB Classic but even he could not get the better of the Italian in Buenos Aires. He will still be one of the favourites for the title but may need to overcome one of the top two. His form in Chile has been great, reaching the final three of the four prior years while winning the title in 2024.
Matteo Berrettini is still finding his feet on court after yet another injury setback but if he gets in full flow then there are very few tennis players who can live with the former Wimbledon finalist. Fellow Italian Lorenzo Sonego will also look to get involved deep in the tournament.
As for the title, I am leaning towards a different Italian with Darderi’s impressive form on clay not getting in the way of the previous final defeat.
*** Luciano Darderi
** Francisco Cerundolo, Matteo Berrettini
* Sebastian Baez, Lorenzo Sonego, Camilo Ugo Carabelli
While Theo Stodiek, Editor for TennisAktuell.DE picks out Alejandro Tabilo to crown himself on home soil.
The BCI Seguros Chile Open in Santiago closes out the South American Golden Swing on clay, and my title pick is the home favourite: Alejandro Tabilo. The left‑hander has blossomed into a three‑time ATP champion and comes in with plenty of confidence after a Challenger final earlier this month, a quarter‑final in Buenos Aires and another solid week in Rio, all of which underline how comfortable he currently feels on clay in this part of the world. Crucially, he has already shown he can handle the unique pressure of playing at home, reaching the final here in 2024 and lifting the doubles trophy that same week in front of an adoring Santiago crowd.
His main obstacle is once again Sebastián Báez, the singles champion from 2024 and one of the tour’s most reliable clay‑court grinders, who just made another strong run at his home event in Buenos Aires. Another major contender is Francisco Cerúndolo, who backed up a run to the fourth round at the Australian Open with a title in Buenos Aires last week and arrives in Chile as the top seed and highest‑ranked player in the draw. Add in dangerous floaters like Luciano Darderi, fresh off his Buenos Aires final run, former Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini and fellow Chileans Cristian Garín and Nicolás Jarry, and the path to the trophy is anything but straightforward.
