"That's a default. You cannot insult the opponent" 😳 No love lost tonight between Corentin Moutet & Nicolas Mejia. Play continues in the opening set. #WSOpen
Never far from controversy, it was the case again for Corentin Moutet as the Frenchman demanded that his opponent be disqualified during his win over Nicolas Mejia in Winston Salem.
Moutet who as well as being a showman with his underarm serve has been known to demand coffee and Pepsi and generally be a nuisance at times on the tennis court.
But he demanded it for a reason. He reported that his opponent had insulted him and wanted a sanction from the chair umpire and supervisor. According to the Frenchman, Mejia said he wanted to break his f**** face.
"I want to break his f***ing face. That’s what he said. Supervisor said it wasn’t for me. I guess it’s not about what you say but more about who you are," he wrote on social media.
He will now face off against Roman Safiullin with Moutet having the last laugh in the end. He went on to seal a 7-6, 6-1 win over the Colombian so in reality he was the winner.
