According to reports, the 2023
Australian Open final between
Novak Djokovic and
Stefanos Tsitsipas was the least-watched final of the last decade.
The final was a historic one for many reasons. First of all, it was the chance for Djokovic to win his 10th Australian Open and he was able to get that done. It also signalled the return of Djokovic to the number one rank which he didn't occupy for over a year despite many thinking it was rightfully his.
It also signalled the rematch between Djokovic and Tsitsipas in another grand slam final after the Greek threw away a 2-0 lead against Djokovic at Roland Garros a few years ago. None of that made the final that much appealing to viewers as it ended up being the least-watched in the last decade.
The final had 439,000 viewers, which was 36% less than last year's final between Medvedev and Nadal. Neither Medvedev nor Tsitsipas are that popular so the difference clearly is between Nadal and Djokovic. Some said the predictability of another Djokovic victory made the final less interesting.
