Thursday brought a lot of surprises at the Chengdu Open when both the first seeded Isner and the second seeded Auger-Aliassime dropped out of the tournament.
A day in China began good for seeded players, when Grigor Dimitrov, who defeated Dan Evans 7-5 and 7-5, managed to advance as well as Denis Shapovalov, who turned the match with Klahn after losing the first set 3-6.
But the opposite was true. Alexander Bublik continues in great shape after knocking out Taylor Fritz in the first round of the tournament he managed to deal with another Team World representative at the Laver Cup, Jordan Thompson.
However, the biggest surprises were provided by the St Petersburg semifinalists Joao Sousa and Egor Gerasimov. First Sousa managed to defeat Auger-Aliassime, who is second-seeded in the tournament. Later Egor Gerasimov was able to turn his match against first-seeded Isner.
The match between Isner and Gerasimov lasted a total of 2 hours and 35 minutes, when we saw 3 tie-breaks, one of which ended 13-11, and the tennis players scored up to 69 aces. In the end, Gerasimov enjoyed the victory, winning 13 of the last 15 matches.

- Having spent weeks and weeks through the years on tour, I can say with confidence that Conchita was (is) one of the very few who realize the surprising level of maturity (and sometimes lack of) which Mirra seems to have developed in such a demanding adult world of Pro-Tennis. While at the same time reminding herself (Conchita, that is) that Mirra is still young and developing mentally and physically. The general public may forget at times, or not at all realize, these modern era young athletes do not have a 'normal' Youth. It's a major sacrifice, among countless sacrifices, these athletes must make. People who blow-off that fact are ignorant and unfair when they blurt out, "They choose fame so they have to put up with the intrusions on their lives". No, they do not.
