The longest final in Wimbledon history and a true tennis epic, the 2019 final saw Novak Djokovic defeat Roger Federer in a match he recalled during his 60 Minutes with Jon Wertheim interview.
Djokovic edged out Federer 7-6(5), 1-6, 7-6(4), 4-6, 13-12 to win his fifth title at the grass court major and after saving two championship points on the serve of the great Swiss.
But being honest in the new full length interview, he said that Federer was the better player in every aspect and it is a showcase that even when you are not at your best in comparison to your opponent that you can still triumph.
In his words, he said that he peaked at the right moments and he certainly did in saving those match points. In an era though where both were towards the top of the game on the surface, it proved to be one of the best matches ever played at SW19.
"That happened in 2019 when I played finals of Wimbledon that, that marathon match, epic match with Roger," the 36-year-old said.
"The sets that I won were all won in tie breaks, seven-six, seven-six, 13-12. And overall, if you see stats, he was far better player in every aspect. But I won the match. And so that actually tells you that you can still win if you pick and choose in which moments of the match you're peaking, and you're playing your best when it matters."
