Fim da passagem do Carlos Alcaraz pelo Rio Open. Técnico Ferrero preocupado deu um tapinha. Alcaraz pediu desculpas por não conseguir dar autógrafo… claramente assustado pela situação.
Bad luck seems to be taking its toll on Carlos Alcaraz. Alcaraz has struggled to play well in matches since losing the 2023 Cincinnati Open final six months ago. Add to all those worries what happened in the Rio Open today. Also, examine a list of all matches in which the Spaniard has participated since October 3, 2023.
At the Rio Open 2024, the Spaniard had to quit his first match against Thiago Monteiro due to an ankle injury. His presence in Indian Wells looked in danger. Updates now suggest though that Carlos Alcaraz will be okay.
Alcaraz arrived in Rio de Janeiro looking to bounce back from a tough semi-final defeat at the Argentina Open against Nicolas Jarry. But his challenge only lasted a few minutes.
On the third point of the match, the world No. 2 stopped playing. He suffered what appeared to be a sprained ankle that prompted the doctor to come in. Although the ankle was taped so that Carlitos could continue, he only competed for two more games before deciding to stop the match and leave the tournament.
Leaving the court, both Alcaraz and his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero were noticeably affected. They looked worried by the situation. And no wonder.
After Rio de Janeiro comes Indian Wells. A Masters 1000 that the Spaniard won last year, and where he will have to defend both title and ATP points.
But, truly, that seems no worry anymore. We hope that the injury is minor, so that Carlos Alcaraz can return very soon to the courts with his spectacular game. After all, at 20 years of age, he carries the title of one of the best young players in the world. Now, updates keep coming in that Alcaraz will be able to compete soon in Indian Wells, the so-called Tennis Paradise.
