Denis Shapovalov will be aiming high at the National Bank Open in Toronto next week where he could face
Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals.
The National Bank Open in Toronto starts tomorrow and Denis Shapolov will be looking to do some damage in front of his native fans. The Canadian spoke ahead of the event and expressed his belief that players now see him as a threat. If he does his part of the job he might face Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinal if the Russian doesn't crash out earlier.
The National Bank Open Toronto Twitter page posted a projected list of quarterfinals if all seeds advance to that stage of the event. It rarely ever happens but some of those matches are very enticing as a prospect. Besides Shapovalov and Rublev another interesting one is
Daniil Medvedev vs
Hubert Hurkacz.
Medvedev will be the top seed at the event and he will have a great chance to win his 4th Masters title. Medvedev is a very good performer on North American hard courts but he will need to play better than he did in Tokyo. A 3rd quarterfinal might be
Stefanos Tsitsipas vs
Casper Ruud where the Greek would be heavily favoured.
The final one would be between
Diego Schwartzman and
Rafael Nadal with the Spaniard completely dominating that amtchup. Nadal got some playing time in Washington so he should be ready.
