The ATP tournaments return to North America from February 9 with the
Dallas Open, which will hold its 5th edition and its second as an ATP 500 event. The tournament will be played at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas, and will feature a singles draw of 28 players, with
Denis Shapovalov as the
defending champion.
With the upgrade from ATP 250 to ATP 500 completed in 2025,
Dallas has become a particularly attractive tournament for ATP players, with a clear predominance of American players. In the month of preparation for the Sunshine Double, several European players are also taking advantage of spending more time in the USA in order to become more accustomed to the conditions ahead of Indian Wells and the Miami Open, which are played during March and are among the most anticipated events on the calendar for players.
There will be five top-20 players and a total of nine inside the top 30 competing in the draw, led by the two biggest local stars:
Taylor Fritz (No. 6) and
Ben Shelton (No. 9). Alongside Casper Ruud (No. 13) and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (No. 14), they complete the four top seeds in the draw, all of whom are guaranteed a first-round bye.
There will be other standout names who will have to start from the first round, including defending champion Shapovalov — who recently dropped to just around world No. 40 and will be under pressure to defend his title if he does not want to suffer a further slide in the ATP rankings. Back in 2025, he claimed in Dallas his first and only ATP 500 title — the biggest of his career — defeating Casper Ruud in the final.
European contenders and experienced names in the field
The tournament will also feature heavyweight names such as Italy’s Flavio Cobolli (No. 20), a hero of the Davis Cup Finals for Italy, who, with the strong level he showed on indoor hard courts at the end of 2025, will be one of the names to watch in Dallas. Another European passing through Texas will be former world No. 3 Grigor Dimitrov, who is looking to regain confidence and add wins after a 2025 marked by his absence from the court for months due to a pectoral injury.
The locals will have important stars with strong arguments to fight for the title. Twenty-year-old Learner Tien (No. 23) and Tommy Paul (No. 24) will be other names among the favourites, having secured seeded positions, although without a first-round bye.
In addition, players such as Brandon Nakashima, Frances Tiafoe, Alex Michelsen and Sebastian Korda will join the draw. Interestingly for an ATP 500 event, the draw will feature the complete presence of the ten best American tennis players at the moment, all inside the top 60 (for a total of 13 of the top 15 Americans, all inside the top 80).
