Ugo Humbert and John Isner came out victorious during the Day 4 at the 2020 ASB Classic to secure their semifinal spots.
The tall American,
John Isner kicked-off the day full of quarterfinals in Auckland. He faced Kyle Edmund in a match without break and with 13 breakpoints that were not converted. In an hour and 58 minutes, Isner scored 25 aces which led him to win both tie-breaks in the match. Both tie-breaks were won 7-5 by Isner as he served through to the semifinals.
Most of the fans in New Zealand expected second-seeded Denis Shapovalov to meet fourth-seeded John Isner in the semifinals. However,
Ugo Humbert was against this idea. The Frenchman was stunning against the young Canadian. He kept a high-level of the first service when he has won up to 86% of points after the first serve. He also added 3 turned breakpoints in the first set and 1 in the second. This, secured him 7-5, 6-4 victory against Shapovalov who already
defeated names like Alexander Zverev or
Stefanos Tsitsipas this year.
