Both Simona Halep and Alize Cornet struggled with the heat in Melbourne but ultimately it was the French who left the court as the victory.
It was a tough match for Halep who entered it with high expectations. Ultimately she wasn't able to prevent Cornet from writing another page in her Cinderella story at the Australian Open but she was honest to admit that she wasn't ready to compete today. Speaking on the conditions and the match she said:
"I have no injury. This is good. Only the heat got me actually early in the first set. I felt sick, felt a little bit dizzy. It's tough to play in the heat, and I was not ready today. She was a little bit stronger, and that's why she could win the match."
It's unclear whether Halep was tired or not but she was hampered physically as her play wasn't up to par. She also did not move as well which all could be attributed to the heat as well. Cornet struggled herself as she admitted after the match but Halep had only positives to say about her opponent. She said:
"I have only nice words about her, because I like her on court, how she's fighting. She deserves what is happening to her now. She works hard all the time, and I wish her good luck. I really want her to make this dream coming true.”
