Frances
Tiafoe talked about his desire to win the
US Open this year.
The
25-year-old athlete was interviewed by ESPN and revealed that his biggest
ambition during this season is to lift the US Open, a Grand Slam where he is
the home favorite and had a great performance in 2022, reaching the semifinals.
On that
occasion, he defeated Diego Schwartzman in the third round, Rafael Nadal in the
round of 16, and Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals. The American ended his
dream run in the semifinals against Carlos Alcaraz in a five-set battle against
the Spanish player who went on to win his first Grand Slam trophy.
"It's
going to give me goosebumps," said
Frances Tiafoe about his expectations
for the 2023 US Open. "I'm already really excited. I want to win the US
Open this year and I'm going to give everything I've got for that event."
The world
number 11 entered the top 30 in March of last year and since then has remained
within the best players in the world, ascending consistently in the rankings,
and is on the verge of entering the top 10 for the first time in his career at
25 years old.
"I
feel like I've got three legitimate chances every year, at the Australian Open,
Wimbledon, the U.S. Open… the French Open is always going to be a tough one for
me," he said. "I can compete against the best players in the world, I
can beat the best players in the world, I have, now it's a matter of doing it
when it counts, over two weeks and back-to-back," said 'Big Foe'.
Tiafoe was
surprised by the Argentine Pedro Cachín in the second round of the Madrid Open
and his next challenge will be at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia Rome where he is the 11th seed.
