Novak Djokovic recently passed Pete Sampras on the list of most weeks spent as world number 1 and he has his sights set on Roger Federer's all-time record.

Djokovic broke a tie with Pete Sampras on Monday for the number of weeks spent as world number 1. The Serbian has now spent 287 weeks as the world number one and his next goal is to reach the all-time record of Roger Federer. The Swiss player spent 310 weeks as the best player in the world as Djokovic is eager to pass him.
Following his win in Rome, Novak was asked about that and he said:
“Of course I'm aware of the number of weeks. I'm getting closer. I'm in a very good position, I feel like. I have also been playing really well and be healthy, which is great.”
Many years ago Djokovic didn't even dream about it but now that it's close it's a goal he admitted saying:
“The historic No. 1 ranking goal is something that is on the horizon. I'm going to give my all and very best that I can possibly give in the next period to achieve that."
He did walk it back a bit saying that he doesn't know what the future brings and he isn't looking too far ahead:
“I can't [look] too far [ahead] and I don't know what years to come will bring for me and just tennis and the world in general.”
If Djokovic stays number one till March 2021 he will pass Federer. We will see if that will happen.
