Novak Djokovic produced a titanic effort as he came from two sets down in a way that only he knows how to reach the fourth round at the
US Open.
Djokovic saw off Laslo Djere 4-6, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1, 6-3 and said afterward that he believes that he has sent a message to the rest of the field that he can play late at night and produce when it matters most.
But of course, often being in that late night slot, it isn't one that he wants to continue in the future, and says he wants a straight sets match next time out if possible. That next opponent: Borna Gojo on Sunday evening.
"Well, look, of course winning a match is always better than losing a match," Novak Djokovic said. "It's as simple as that. I think the message is sent to the rest of the field that obviously I'm still able to play five sets deep at night.
"Coming from two sets down always sends a strong message to the future opponents," he continued. "At the same time I'm not really wanting to be in this position, to be honest. I prefer a straight-set win. Hopefully I can get back on that track in the next match."
Since his return to America during the Cincinnati Open, he has hardly put a foot wrong against Alexandre Muller, Bernabe Zapata Mirallas. It was his biggest test so far against Djere and he will hope that it is his scare all tournament.
