Alexander Zverev has played sensational tennis all week long in Madrid but facing Thiem will be a challenge especially after the US Open loss that still stings.
Last year Alexander Zverev was on the brink of winning his maiden Grand Slam title after going 2-0 ahead against Dominic Thiem at the US Open. However, Thiem would end up rallying and beating Zverev 3-2 to win his first Grand Slam title. It's a painful loss for Zverev who still remembers it:
“I think everybody remembers the US Open final that we played. I remember it, certainly.”
Now heading into another clash with Thiem at the
Madrid Open the German is excited to play against him despite the US Open defeat still on his mind:
“It’s still gonna be somewhere in the back of my mind when we play tomorrow. I’m looking forward to the match.”
Zverev has a 2-8 H2H record against Thiem which is far from ideal but the German already defeated him in Madrid. It happened in 2018 in the final no less. Despite the abysmal H2H Zverev believes he can do it again:
“I mean, I know that I can do it."
The match will be played at 16:00 CET and you can follow the score of the match on our live scores page
