David Ferrer has said that their defeat in the final of the Davis Cup was not the end of the world as they allowed Italy to seal a three peat on Sunday in Bologna against Spain.
Ferrer spoke afterwards in comments collected from the press conference by Punto de Break and praised his team over giving them any semblance of shtick.
They lost to Italy despite Jaume Munar winning the first set of the crucial match against Flavio Cobolli where it looked like Spain were heading into the ascendancy. But despite that they went on to lose.
It went all the way to decisive doubles and they were defeated with this Munar moment acting as a main one in the context of the match. But instead of sitting there and criticising his players, it was much more of a positive tone from Ferrer despite them missing out on probably their best chance for the title given Sinner and co are not there.
"Regarding this team, I must say above all that they are wonderful people, and that is the most important thing," said Ferrer as per Punto de Break.
"Working with them is a pleasure and an honor for me; they make things very easy. On the court, they are simply excellent. And they proved it. For me, this year has been fantastic.
"I had very good times, I really enjoyed it. Not just today: all week, with Pablo (Carreno Busta), Jaume (Munar), and in doubles with Pedro (Martinez) and Marcel (Granollers)...
"I really enjoyed seeing how they supported each other and gained more and more confidence. For me, as captain, it's wonderful. It's clear that we lost the Davis Cup final, but I don't see it as a tragedy: I rather see it as something fantastic, to be so close to winning a seventh Davis Cup for our country.
"In the end, that's sport and you have to accept it, it's not the end of the world."
