Italy’s tennis star
Jannik Sinner has once again lamented after
missing the Paris Olympics. The 22-year-old is already regarded as one of the
best players currently playing in men’s tennis in the singles category, along
with Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz and Serbia’s legendary tennis star Novak Djokovic.
Sinner recently failed to represent his country at the Parsi
Olympics as he was forced to withdraw from the mega-event because of a fitness
concern. The world number one, however, was not missed much by the Italian contingent
as in his absence, Lorenzo Musetti ended up winning the bronze medal after
beating Canada’s Felix Auger Aliassime with a score of 6-4, 1-6, 6-3.
Sinner was recently quoted in a report in which he explained how he regretted missing the mega-event because of a fitness concern. The San Candido-born further explained that, looking at the broader prospect, and as an Italian, he was happy to see his fellow countryman Musetti producing the goods at the Roland Garros, who ended up winning an Olympic medal.
"I saw some of the Olympics, although I didn't watch
much tennis. It broke my heart not to be able to go to Paris, the Games were
one of my main goals of the season," he said. "In the end though,
looking at everything from a broader perspective, Musetti won a bronze, so an
Italian is happy and I am happy for him. Let's hope for gold tomorrow. I don't
know what my schedule will be like tomorrow yet, but if I have time, why not,
I'd be happy.”
Sinner is going through an impressive season but off late,
he has struggled with fitness concern. He also won his maiden and till now the
only Grand Slam this year as he lifted the Australian Open after beating Russia’s
Daniil Medvedev in a five-set thrilling contest with a score of 3–6, 3–6, 6–4,
6–4, 6–3.
