American
John Isner may be approaching the twilight of his career, but the North Carolina native still has a lot of gas left in the tank.
Isner has been a staple on the ATP circuit for over a decade, but with his career winding down, the towering UGA product has slowly shifted his focus to his growing family. Nonetheless, Isner is still considered a threat on tour, and his performance during the 2022 season has seen him finish inside the Top 50 on the ATP Ranking Table.
This is quite an achievement, considering Isner is now an elder statesman on the circuit. At 37 years of age, his best days may be behind him. Nonetheless, this hasn't stopped him from ending the year ranked World No.41, making him the oldest player in the Top 100.
The American had an above-average season, with noteworthy performances coming at this year's Wimbledon Championships. Isner defeated two-time champion Andy Murray in four sets, hitting 36 aces in the match. He followed this up with another 24 aces against Jannik Sinner in the third round, becoming the fifth man to reach 1000 aces at Wimbledon. Additionally, he surpassed 13,728 career aces, a record set by Croatian Ivo Karlovic.
Although Isner dealt with a few injuries that saw him take time off during the season, the American's consistency in tournaments where he did play was enough to guarantee him a spot in the year-ending Top 50 on the
ATP Rankings table.
