Nick Kyrgios loves basketball and it's a sport which embraces trash talk so naturally he would love to see that being allowed in tennis, same with Pegula and Gauff.
Tennis was always considered a gentleman's sport which rules and practices in places that emphasize grace above all. It's a competitive sport but it's tried to subdue the competitive nature that does arise when you play it. Emotions are generally not welcomed, anger is frowned upon and 'breaking the code' is considered taboo.
It's why players who have are a bit more on the loose side of things like Kyrgios get much pushback. Recently Gauff said that it's something she's used to and she would not have anything against it:
"I wouldn't take it personally. I played other sports growing up, I played basketball and ran track. In those sports we trash talk a lot and I was the only girl on the boys team. I got some dishes and you had to dish some back. And anyone who knows my dad ... he would be so pro trash talk."
Pegula backed her up: "My coach said the same thing. It's so normal for them."
Gauff talked about it due to the topic arising following the very prominent trash talk that was featured in the NCAA Women's Championship explaining:
"If I did that, Twitter would go insane. But if Caitlin Clark does it, people love it. And there's nothing wrong with that."
Kyrgios seemingly backed her up by reacting to it on Twitter:
"Lol they don’t want that."
