Daniil Medvedev is not particularly thrilled with having Carlos Alcaraz on his side of the Madrid Open draw calling the situation scary because the Spaniard is on fire right now.
Medvedev had a really good chance to get to know Alcaraz a bit closer in the Indian Wells final but it wasn't a good experience as the Spaniard smashed him in two sets to win the trophy. It will be even tougher on clay because, for all his tennis skill, Medvedev really doesn't like playing on the dirt.
Alcaraz doesn't mind it at all as he has multiple trophies on the surface already and Medvedev is aware of that. He referenced is variety when talking about it:
“They are very disguised. One out of two he's going to make a drop shot, but the one he doesn't make, it's going to be a bomb forehand, so you can't just run for it because then it's going to be a winner. I'm going to be interested to play him more and more to try and see how I can handle this part better.”
He added:
“I remember against [Carlos] in Indian Wells, I was like, ‘yeah, I was not expecting this, the drop shot from this position!’ Then the next week in Miami, I think a lot of guys maybe saw the final, so they started to do only drop shots against me.
