Rafael Nadal recently sat down with ATPTour.com to discuss some of the most memorable moments of his long career that include some spectacular matches.
The name of Rafael Nadal was first heard in mainstream tennis circles in 2002 when he scored his first ATP level win over Delgado in Mallorca. The 15-year-old Nadal won 6-4 6-4 and in his sitdown, he called it an amazing feeling. Another memorable moment came in 2006 when he played in the final of the Rome Masters against Roger Federer. It was a 5-setter as Masters were back then and Nadal saved a double championship point defending his title from the previous year in the process. About that match Nadal simply said:
"Great memories, fantastic crowd."
Another match came against Murray at the Nitto ATP Finals in 2010. Nadal defeated Murray in that match in a close 3rd set and on it he said:
"Great court. One of these matches that I remember well and I enjoyed it a lot."
There have been several more matches Nadal highlighted and a feature film would have not sufficed in order to recap all his great matches but one that was very dear to him came at the Rome Masters in 2019 when Nadal defeated Djokovic to win the title. It came after a rough stretch where he lost three times on clay courts without winning a title (Monte Carlo, Barcelona, Madrid).
"It was an important moment for me. Winning the 9th title in Rome was unforgetable for me."
