Jannik
Sinner continues to break records with a new triumph at
Indian Wells, now
holding the longest winning streak in Italian tennis, surpassing Adriano
Panatta's record set in 1976.
The world
No. 3 shows no signs of slowing down in California and advances to the fourth
round of the tournament with convincing victories over
Thanasi Kokkinakis and
the 25th seed
Jan-Lennard Struff: “I feel like I have confidence in my shots,”
Sinner said. “That’s why I work hard, trying to get a feel. There are good days
and worse days. Today I felt really good on court. Let’s see what’s
coming in the next round.”
At just 22
years old, Sinner has already become a tennis legend in Italy. In December
2023, he led his country to win the Davis Cup with three crucial victories,
marking Italy's first title since 1976.
That same
year, Adriano Panatta was the top Italian player and set the record for 16
consecutive victories, a streak that began in the Davis Cup, just like Jannik
Sinner's current run of 17 wins, including Davis Cup, Australian Open,
Rotterdam Open, and now Indian Wells.
Now into
the fourth round at Tennis Paradise, Sinner will aim to extend his streak to 18
victories when facing the 16th seed
Ben Shelton, seeking a place in the
quarterfinals.
Currently
ranked world No. 2 in the live rankings, this position could translate into the
official rankings if he at least reaches the same round as defending champion
Carlos Alcaraz. In fact, one of the most intriguing rivalries on the Tour could
see a new encounter in the semifinals if both players fulfill their mission in
the draw.
