Through to his 11th career final! 🔥 @NickKyrgios takes out Ymer 7-6(4), 6-3 to advance in D.C. @CitiOpen | #CitiOpen
Nick Kyrgios continued playing well in the D.C. beating Mikael Ymer in two sets (7-6 (4), 6-3) and he'll take on Nishioka for the trophy.
Kyrgios faced a very strong Mikael Ymer in Washington as the Swede continued playing superb tennis. Ymer has been aggressive all week serving well and hitting his groundstrokes superbly well. He gave Kyrgios quite a bit of trouble as he kept him away from any kind of break points. The first set went into the tiebreak and both played well but Kyrgios was a bit better.
The Australian was able to apply the pressure in the 2nd set as well with Ymer stumbling towards the end. It was a great match where Kyrgios served really well. That serve was essentially the crucial difference as Ymer could not control the return as well as he needed to.
Kyrgios' opponent in the final won't be Andrey Rublev as the Russian suffered a shocking loss to Yoshihito Nishioka. Another cinderella story this week has been about the Japanese player who is playing, maybe the best tennis of his life. Nishioka completely broke down Rublev who could not do anything against him other than spray numerous errors.
It was a superb display from Nishiok and he'll have a chance to win the trophy.
