Kei Nishikori is eager to return to competitive tennis after his 2020 season was derailed by COVID-19 and injury.
Kei Nishikori totalled 10 months of absence from tennis after first undergoing an elbow surgery which slated him for a return at the US Open. Unfortunately he contracted COVID-19 prior to that forcing him to withdraw. When he did return he struggled with form and played only six matches before injuring himself once more which effectively ended his 2020 season.
Speaking to Kyodo News he outlined his desire to return by saying:
“We had few tournaments (due to the pandemic) and my season came to an end when I was beginning to get my feel back. I really can’t wait for next year. I couldn’t face top-10 ranked players this season. I want to compete at that level again as soon as I can.”
He also gave an update on his shoulder saying:
“(My shoulder) has recovered to a decent level. It’ll be definitely okay for next year. I’ll prepare (for the Olympics) assuming that they will take place.”
