Novak Djokovic is edging closer
to achieving yet another milestone. The 36-year-old is often regarded as the
greatest player in the history of men’s tennis in the singles category, having won
24 Grand Slams in his illustrious career.
Djokovic is now edging closer to achieving yet another milestone
as he recently equalled the record of the former world number one Spain’s Rafael
Nadal of securing at least a semifinal spot in one
ATP 1000 for 17 consecutive
years. The Spaniard registered this record after playing in the last four of an
ATP 1000 event from 2005 to 2022.
On the other hand, Djokovic managed to achieve the record after
playing in the semifinals of the event consecutively from 2007 to 2024. In the
ongoing season, the Belgrade-born managed to register a place in the semifinal of
the ongoing
Monte-Carlo Masters after beating Australia’s Alex de Minaur in
straight sets with a score of 7-5, 6-4.
Djokovic is now set to face off Norway’s Casper Ruud in the
last-four clash on Saturday. It will be the sixth meeting between the two and Serbia’s legendary tennis star holds a clear edge as he won on all the previous
five occasions. Their most recent meeting was in the final of the French Open
2023 where Djokovic came out on top in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 6-3,
7-5.
