Novak Djokovic will seek two ultimate ranking records in 2021, which would give him a massive boost in the GOAT race against
Roger Federer and
Rafael Nadal.
Novak is currently 2180 points ahead of Rafael Nadal, with a massive chance of remaining on the ATP throne after February. If he does so, Novak will become the record-holder on March 8, passing Roger Federer's 310 weeks as world no. 1 and securing a massive ranking achievement, the one that should take some beating in the years and decades to come.
Novak became the 25th world no.1 in July 2011 following a stellar season and the first Wimbledon crown, staying on the top for a year and embracing the second stint from the end of 2012. Novak was the player to beat since Wimbledon 2014 until the closing stages of 2016, wrapping up 122 consecutive weeks as world no. 1 and entering the GOAT race against Federer and Nadal after displaying dominant numbers at Majors and the Masters 1000 events.
Struggling with an elbow injury, Novak needed a couple of years to ascend the ATP throne again in the final weeks of 2018. The Serb lost the leading position for a couple of weeks at the end of 2019, seizing it back after this year's Australian Open and remaining in front of all the opponents.
Last week, Djokovic became the second player with 300 weeks as world no. 1, and he will almost certainly pass Federer on March 8 and write the record books.
Most weeks as world no. 1:
Roger Federer | 310 |
Novak Djokovic | 301 |
Pete Sampras | 286 |
Ivan Lendl | 270 |
