Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov has proven to be a real surprise package in the ongoing Miami Open where he has managed to book his place in the final after beating Germany’s Alexander Zverev in the semifinal with a score of 6-4, 6-7, 6-4.
With that win, the 32-year-old is set to return to the top-10 in the ATP rankings next week and with that, the one-handed backhand will also have a representation in the top-10 in the ATP ranking ladder.
Dimitrov is famous for his one-handed backhand, a rare quality to have in men’s tennis in recent years. The Haskovo-born is not set to face off against the current world number three Italy’s Jannik Sinner in the all-important final.
This will be the fourth meeting between the two. In the previous three outings, the Italian tennis star holds a slight edge with two wins and one defeat.
Their most recent outing came in the quarterfinal of the ATP 500 event in Beijing, China where Sinner came out on top with a score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.
Dimitrov’s only win over the reigning Australian Open champion came way back in 2020 in the round of 16 of the ATP 1000 Masters in Rome with a score of 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
