Pablo Carreno-Busta cruised past Struff while Humbert scored a huge upset win over Tsitsipas in Paris to reach the 2nd round of the Paris Masters.
Pablo Carreno-Busta is through to the 2nd round of the Paris Masters following a strong performance and victory over Struff. The whole endeavour took less than an hour and a half and it saw the Spaniard win 7-6(3) 6-2. It was a very interesting match where both players opened well with Struff even having a break point. Curiously that was the only break point either player had in the opening set which ended in a tiebreak. Pablo played better and he won it 7-3. It was a very disappointing end result for Struff who entered the 2nd set visibly shaken. Busta used that immediately nad he broke him in the first game of the 2nd set. From there it was a rather easy finish against Struff who dropped off a cliff. Ultimately Carreno-Busta won the 2nd set 6-2.
Another interesting match played in the evening was between Humbert and Tsitsipas. Stefanos started the match well taking an early break immediately but Humbert came back to tie it up. After that, there weren't many chances for either player to go ahead. Tsitsipas had three consecutive break points to take the lead but squandered all of them. Humbert had two consecutive break points late in the set but also didn't use them. Ultimately we ended up in a tiebreak where Ugo served better and won the opening set 7-6(3). The 2nd set opened with both of them playing rather well but it was Ugo who had to save the first break point.
Tsitsipas had some struggles later in the set but Humbert could not use any of the 4 break points he had. Ultimately we ended up in a tiebreak where Tsitsipas came back miraculously saving three match points in the process to win it 8-6. Despite that, the Greek lost his serve in the opening game of the third set with Humbert taking the lead. He didn't hold it for too long as Stefanos tied it at 3-3. The match progressed as expected with both players winning their games. We ended up in the tiebreak and this time Humbert was more focused winning it 7-2. Spectacular effort from the Frenchman in a match that lasted almost three and a half hours.
