Serbia’s tennis star Novak Djokovic achieved yet another milestone after his recent triumph in the US Open.
The 36-year-old defeated the world number three Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the final of the fourth and last Grand Slam of the year with a score of 6-3, 7-6, 6-3.
With that victory, Djokovic surpassed his annual earnings to over $10 million as he earned a staggering amount of $3 million after his triumph in New York.
It was the ninth year that the current world number has managed to earn more than $10 million, which remains a unique feat.
Interestingly, no other player has managed to earn that amount of money in more than four years in their respective careers.
Despite all the fears around his form and fitness coming into this year, Djokovic proved all his doubters wrong as he ended up winning three out of the four Grand Slams.
His only defeat in a major tournament came in the final of Wimbledon where he lost to Spain’s young tennis star Carlos Alcaraz who secured a win in a five-set thriller with a score of 1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4.
Djokovic remains the most successful player in the history of men’s singles tennis in the Open era, having won as many as 24 Grand Slam titles.
His most successful competition has been the Australian Open where he has lifted the title record 10 times.
