Spain’s legendary tennis star
Rafael Nadal has admitted that
he is not in a position to commit about any event. The 38-year-old is regarded
as one of the greatest players in the history of men’s tennis in the singles
category in the Open era, having won as many as 22 Grand Slam titles.
Nadal has struggled with fitness concerns in the recent past.
It is because of this reason he has struggled with fitness concerns in the
recent past. In 2023, the Spaniard missed three out of four Grand Slams because
of injury and during that time, announced that he would retire at the end of
the 2024 season.
Nadal returned to the court earlier this season but has
struggled with form and fitness concerns. Despite managing to play few events,
the former world number one still ended up playing just one out of four Grand
Slams in 2024 as well. Earlier this year, Nadal announced that he would take
part in the
Laver Cup but on Thursday, it was announced that he will not
feature in a two-team event.
Nadal has been recently quoted in a report by Eurosport
where he admitted that he is no position to commit for any future. The legendary
tennis star further admitted that mentally he is in a ‘good’ space and has ‘no
problems’.
“Mentally I’m good, no problems," he said. "I’m at
home, enjoying other things, training as much as I can every day. No drama,
obviously these are decisions [the Laver Cup withdrawal] that are being made,
and this was a possibility - it’s been a while without competing. There will be
someone else who can do better. Right now I’m not in a position to put myself
down for anything. I said [I would play] until the Olympics and then we would
see, and I’m in that period of rest.”
