Jannik Sinner grew up idolising
Roger Federer and can't play him now with the Swiss ace of course seeing his career come to an end in 2022 prior to the Italian's now breakout in the sport. But when quizzed about how they would fare facing off with each other right now, Federer said recently it would be a no contest.
Sinner up until his defeat to Carlos Alcaraz yesterday sat at 19-0 for the season since the Davis Cup in the latter half of 2024 and has been the benchmark for a lot of the top names this season. While Alcaraz has only just come to the fore again and Novak Djokovic floundered at Indian Wells, Sinner has carried the candle.
But Federer who is now 42 showed big praise for the Italian and is the latest in a long line of fans of the Australian Open champion who fulfilled his potential this past January in Melbourne.
"Well right now it would be not fair. He would be the big champion, you know. Me, I would be chasing the balls. He's doing amazing, and I'm very very happy for him. What he did in Australia was incredible," Federer said recently while attending the 96th edition of the Oscars.
