Andrey Rublev and Lorenzo Sonego moved to the Erste Bank Open Vienna final following victories on Saturday.
The 2nd semifinal match between Evans and Sonego was slated as a great one and while it was at the time ultimately it did not live up to its potential. The Italian brought back some of the magic that saw him crush Djokovic in the previous round and it helped him to an early break. It was all he needed and he calmy continued to play his game to which Evans had no answer. He settled nicely on his own serve not allowing Sonego anything but the Italian didn't bother to force the issue. After 32 minutes of play, the scoreboard showed 6-3 for Sonego.
The 2nd set opened furiously with three opening games being won by the receiving player. Sonego struck first taking the 1-0 lead before Evans tied it at 1-1. The Italian once again broke Evans seemingly at will and it was trouble for him. Evans continued playing well on his own serve but the Italian successfully fended off all his attempts. Dan would fight his way to a break point but the Italian saved. Ultimately Sonego held on to win the match 6-3 6-4 against Evans who didn't have the sharpness of yesterday.
