Rublev claims maiden ATP 500 title with thrilling victory over Tsitsipas in Hamburg European Open final

Andrey Rublev has been one of the most in-form players on the ATP Tour in 2020 and has added a third title of the year at the Hamburg European Open seeing off Stefanos Tsitsipas in a thriller 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.

Rublev adds to triumphs in Qatar and Adelaide but it is his first ATP 500 level title as he heads into Roland Garros with an exceptional win in Germany.

An interesting stat is that the Russian has 25 wins for this year with only Novak Djokovic having more and 3 titles and the same being the case so he has firmly established himself as one of the top players on the tour as he makes his way towards the top 10 in the world rankings.

He came from 3-5 down in the third to see off Tsitsipas with it going all the way but with the tie firmly poised at 6-5 to Rublev, the Greek failed to serve it out and it handed him the biggest title of his career.

From that deficit, he won 12 out of 14 points in making it 6-5 and 16/19 overall in victory and while for Tsitsipas, it will be disappointment.

He will also head into Paris with confidence after his poor display in Rome losing to Jannik Sinner was seemingly only a hangover from the US Open.
