Carlos Alcaraz has been eliminated from the Rome Masters in his second match. The world No. 2 was completely outclassed by Fábián Marozsán who, in the first match of his career against a Top 10 player, defeated the Spaniard in two sets: 6-3 7-6(4).
In the first set of the match at the Rome Open, Alcaraz had a break point but he didn't use it. Marozsan then continued to play spectacular tennis breaking for the first time at 2-1 to go uo 3-1. Both won their respective serves until the end with the Hungarian winning the opening set 6-3. In fact, Carlos Alcaraz would not have a break chance for the rest of the set. The Hungarian was very confident with his serve as Alcaraz didn't play that well looking rather fatigued.
In the second set, the doubts continued in Alcaraz's tennis. The Spaniard was not able to put his opponent in any trouble, who was still impeccable in his serves. At 3-3, all the alarms would go off, as Marozsan again got a break to go up 4-3. Carlos Alcaraz would first demonstrate why he is number 2 in the ranking, getting his first break of the match in the most tense moment for him. At 4-4, the two took their respective games to a tie break.
Everything seemed to be on the right track. Alcaraz got an early 'mini-break' to put on track what would have been the 1-1 in sets. However, with 3-4 in favor, the Spaniard collapsed and Marozsán chained four straight points to close the set and take the match giving one of the biggest surprises of the tournament, if not the biggest of all.
